Lost Lake

When:7/7/2020

Who:McKay, John, Robert, Carly, Covey, and Ellie

Wildlife:None

Trail:3 miles, 1.5 hr

We parked at Tower and walked through Roosevelt to get to the trail head. The trail is a nice loop starting with a steep incline winding through forest and then opening up to the lake at the top. We took our time going up and enjoyed the large trees in the forest. At the top we crossed a bridge over a small stream and the lake was immediately after that.

The loop continues around the west of the lake, and then through a small valley where you eventually get to the petrified tree. It's a nice stop along the hike. The trail continues up the hill to the east of the tree and crosses over some high meadows. The way down is more sparse at first, and then gets down into the trees.

Conclusion:

This hike would be really fun to do right before going to Lamar to look for animals. Making a special trip out there wasn't something we would do every year. The hike can also be significantly shortened by starting at the petrified tree and just doing and out and back.
